Proper hair washing in three steps

Haircare at home is not a complicated process, it is just important to know when and why to use certain products. After reading this text, many of you will realize that you are wrong, even in the first steps when washing your hair. We have all heard of masks, packaging, balms, conditioners, oils… But what do they do to our hair? Do we know how to use them properly and in what order?

Shampoo – the first and obligatory step

Hair washing is mandatory and is a step of regular hygiene, as well as showering, washing the face, brushing teeth… Shampoos are intended for washing and cleaning the hair and scalp. The classic shampoo is applied to wet hair and rubbed into the scalp. It works by opening the hair cuticle, to remove excess fat and accumulated dirt.

Today, the offer of these products is so diverse that everyone can find the right product for themselves. There are even shampoos for dry hair washing, which are used in situations when we are not able to wash our hair in the normal way.

The most important thing is to choose an adequate shampoo

The shampoo that foams the most or smells best is often not the best solution. For the right choice, it is important to know the characteristics of our hair and scalp. A good shampoo should help eliminate the problem that the hair is facing (e.g. damaged ends).

It is common to wash your hair two to three times a week. Depending on the needs and type of each hair, the procedure can be applied less often or more often.

People who are more exposed to dirt in their environment, and those who sweat profusely, can wash their hair every day. The same goes for people who have extremely oily hair. In that case, it is recommended to use special shampoos, without sulfates and parabens.

Shampoos for frequent use are mild, do not contain strong chemicals, are not aggressive to the hair and scalp, and can be used daily.

Many men, but also women, face hair loss. The causes are different, but the good news is that there is a solution. There are more and more cosmetic products on the market that successfully reduce the appearance of hair loss. If you are wondering what is the best shampoo against hair loss, read one of our texts.

Since every hair is different, each of us should have our shampoo. So, it is not good for the whole family to use e.g. anti-dandruff shampoo if only one member has the problem.

Mask – nourishes and restores hair

Hair masks or packages are always applied to clean, pre-washed hair. Their main purpose is to nourish, nourish and hydrate the hair. Therefore, for the nutrients to penetrate the hair structure itself, it is necessary to use shampoo first. As a reminder, the shampoo opens the hair cuticle, cleans the hair, and leaves a free path for proteins from the package. That is why applying the mask is the second step when washing your hair.

Proper hair care involves applying an appropriate mask to the entire length of the hair, avoiding only the scalp. It is necessary to leave it on the hair for a while, sometimes to comb it, and only then to wash it.

Masks can be applied during each wash, or as needed. The most important thing is to choose the right mask for your hair and follow the instructions on the packaging.

Conditioner – the final step in every wash

After the hair is nourished, a balm or conditioner enters the scene. Its main role is to close the hair cuticle so that the hair retains all the proteins longer and so that we can make combing easier. If we skip this step, we risk additional breakage, cracking, and damage to the hair, already during the first combing.

In addition, hair balms additionally strengthen and protect the hair from external influences. They are applied to damp hair, after rinsing with shampoo (and mask), and at the ends. It is necessary to leave the product to act for a few minutes, and then wash it out thoroughly. If you skip this step, after a while your hair will become dry and lifeless, and the ends will be cracked and visibly damaged.

So, it is no longer a secret what they are for and how basic hair care products work. Shampoo and conditioner are created to function as separate products and only give the best results.

Additional expert advice is to always use products from the same collection because in that way we get the maximum effect. By mixing products from different brands, the results are less effective.

Forget about 2 in 1 shampoos

Shampoos 2in1 (shampoo and conditioner in one product) are a pure marketing ploy. They arose in response to the accelerated pace of life, lack of time, and the need for instant solutions. However, they are not a good solution and experienced hairdressers do not recommend them. Think about why. Logically, one product cannot perform both functions at the same time. Is it not?

The process of washing hair in three, previously described, steps takes longer and is often more expensive. However, do not forget that beautiful hair is priceless. Only with regular and proper care and maintenance, your hair will be shiny and healthy.

2in1 shampoos may be cheaper than buying separate products, but they do not give real results. By using this product, you will have only clean hair and scalp, but not silky, soft, and gentle hair. Such preparations cannot be as effective as the use of separate products: shampoos and conditioners.

Hair drying

After shampooing, it is extremely important to rinse your hair thoroughly. Residues of shampoo and conditioner can cause additional oiliness of the hair and the effect of a glued hairstyle. After rinsing, it is enough to lightly pat the hair with a towel, to pick up excess water. No rubbing and rough movements. Choose a towel or microfiber hair turban, because these fibers do the least damage to the hair.

This is followed by drying. Drying your hair naturally will not further damage it. However, this way we can never get a perfectly straight and beautifully shaped hairstyle. In addition, this process can take too long, especially for those who have long and thick hair.

That is why blow-drying is an indispensable procedure, especially in winter and on cold days. To reduce the damage caused by additional heating to a minimum, and speed up the process of drying and styling hair, it is necessary to have a good and quality hairdryer. In addition, there are special products that are designed to protect hair from overheating which are applied to the hair after washing, and before blow-drying. Professional hair dryers used by hairdressers have high power, dry hair quickly, and are made to damage the hair as little as possible.

Our recommendation is to try new hair styling products, which, thanks to fluorescent colors, will make blow-drying at home more fun.

Proper hair care requires regular combing

It is necessary to comb the hair every day, not only for a tidier appearance but also to avoid the appearance of tangled hair. Combing the hair is mandatory at least twice a day: in the morning and before bed, so it is very important to choose the right brush for everyday use. The MACADAMIA No Tangle brush is one of the top products from our offer in this category. It is specially designed to make combing easier.

Additional care

Washing in three steps, using an adequate brush and a regular haircut will provide the hair with basic care and shine. However, if the hair is extremely damaged, it will need additional care, which will also come in handy for healthy hair. This includes the use of additional care products such as ampoules and leave-in treatments, or shampoos, masks, and balms that contain the necessary ingredients. One of these beneficial ingredients is macadamia oil.

If you want to have softer and silkier hair, be sure to include products with argan oil in your hair care collection. This oil is especially effective for damaged and dry hair.

Hairstyling

If you have neglected your hair for years, even the most expensive products cannot provide quick solutions. Prolonged improper care also requires a longer time for recovery and growth of healthy hair. Haircare with castor oil will help healthy hair grow faster

If you are impatient and can’t wait for your hair to grow, you can always use hair extension. With the right choice of extensions and following advice, hair extensions will not be a big deal.

The most common change that affects the overall appearance is a change in hair color. Hair coloring is used by both women and men who want to change the natural color of their hair or to cover up gray hair. If you are wondering “How to choose the right hair dye”, be sure to read our text about it. Haircare after coloring involves additional hydration and the use of shampoos, masks, and balms for colored hair so that it retains color and shines for longer.

The cosmetics industry has advanced so much that today’s dyes if used properly, do not harm the hair. However, some people are allergic to certain chemicals from classic hair dyes. If you want to change or naturally refresh your hair color, choose henna for your hair.

Haircut allows for healthy hair growth

For the hair to be healthy, it is necessary to shorten it regularly. Even if you want to let it grow, a haircut, at least every three months, is a must. The goal is not only to have long but above all healthy and beautiful hair. Regular haircuts stop the appearance of split ends.

Why is it important for a haircut to be done by a professional? Because hairdressers use professional tools and accessories, they know all the techniques of their craft, have experience, and can help you choose the best hairstyle for your face shape. Also, a good hairdresser will always give you tips on how to care for your hair and what is best for your hair type.

Proper hair care during the summer

Proper hair care is necessary throughout the year. In summer, it is necessary to pay extra attention to hair, because it is more exposed to the sun, UV rays, and water.

Summer in the pool can have consequences on the hair, skin, and nails if we are exposed to water in the pool for too long. The hair is hydrophilic, which means that it easily absorbs water and everything in it.

The water in the pool contains chlorine and other chemicals, which can lead to bleaching of the natural hair pigment and weakening of the hair. It also contains an increased concentration of copper ions, which are added to prevent the appearance of algae. Therefore, as a consequence of being in the pool for long, green shades can appear on the hair.

This does not mean that we should not go to the pool, but to be moderate and use adequate products that will protect and nourish our hair. Such is the sulfate-free shampoo MACADAMIA Endless Summer Sun & Surf, which cleanses the hair of sea salt, chlorine, and excess styling products. You will also help your hair if you go to the shower with clean water after leaving the pool, which will partially wash the chemicals out of your hair.

Also, prevention is extremely important. If you are an avid swimmer and like to be in the water for a long time, protect your hair with a swimming cap. A good option is to wet your hair with clean water before entering the pool. In that way, the hair will absorb water that is not chlorinated and will be more resistant to absorbing water from the pool.

Haircare at sea

Proper hair care at sea is partially different from regular hair care. To return from the sea with healthy hair, it needs additional hydration and protection from the sun, regardless of whether it is dyed or untreated.

If there are no showers on the beach with clean water to wash off your hair after leaving the sea, then be sure to do so upon returning to the accommodation. The salt mustn’t stay in the hair, so as not to dry it out further. So, you do not have to use shampoo every day, but it is important to wash your hair daily with clean water. Then apply the appropriate balm and rinse well.

Summer is the time when we can afford the luxury of natural hair drying. Take advantage of the warm weather and give your hair a rest from the additional heating.

Haircare after the sea depends on how much you take care of your hair on vacation. Knowing the bad habits of clients, hairdressers usually advise cutting and coloring hair after returning from the sea. However, if you have followed the rules and cared for your hair during the holidays, a haircut will not be necessary. The ends will stay healthy and the hair shiny.

Of course, hair color and changing the color is primarily a matter of aesthetic nature and the choice is yours. Depending on the quality of the hair color you use, as well as the care after coloring, the color may fade. In that case, after returning from the sea, a new coloring is obligatory, to restore the desired shade and shine to the hair.

Proper hair care in winter

Winter hair care, in addition to increased hydration and protection, also means taking care of factors that can have a negative impact (cold, wind, moisture…). Hats, caps, and similar winter clothing items will additionally protect your hair. It is better that they are made of natural materials and that they are not too narrow so that the head does not sweat further under the hood.

In winter, the hair is more charged. This phenomenon occurs for several reasons, among other things because of wearing turtlenecks, scarves, and hats made of artificial materials. Experts, therefore, advise us to use anti-static hair products in the winter. Our recommendation is INSIGHT Anti Frizz Hydrating Hair Balm.

Also, what experts advise is to wash your hair with water that is not too hot. Hot water can further dry your hair. The heat also affects the expansion of the pores on the skin, due to which low external temperatures can damage the scalp. The secret advice of experts is to rinse the ends of the hair with completely cold water, which will provide a longer shine to the hair.

If you have cared for your hair properly throughout the year, the coldest and warmest seasons will not be a big challenge for you.

Men’s hair care is no different from women’s hair care. The same rules apply to everyone. Don’t expect a miracle after one or two washes, because the results don’t come overnight. It is necessary to be persistent and persistent in proper care.
