Mint

Mint is a perennial plant from the Lamiaceae family, known for its strong, refreshing aroma and flavour. It has distinctive serrated leaves and small flowers, most commonly purple or white. Mint is very resilient and grows quickly, often used as an ornamental plant in gardens because it repels certain insects.

The most important active ingredient in mint is menthol, which produces its characteristic cooling sensation. Mint also contains menthone, limonene, pulegone and flavonoids, which provide antimicrobial properties, a soothing effect on the digestive system and a refreshing effect on the skin and respiratory tract.

Mint has a wide range of uses across various areas of life and industries. In culinary applications, it is added to teas, beverages, ice creams, desserts, salads, sauces and cocktails. In cosmetics, its extracts and essential oil are used in balms, lotions, shower gels, shampoos and hair conditioners, as well as in toothpastes, due to their refreshing and cooling effects. Its use in cosmetics combines antimicrobial action, circulation stimulation and aromatherapeutic benefits, making products pleasant for the skin and senses.
